Tony Melvin Slater, 82, of Ashland, Ky., died Monday, Sept. 3, 2018, in the Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland. Tony was born April 5, 1936, in Whitesburg, Ky. A son of the late George and Ida E. See Slater. He was a member of Ashland Baptist Church and retired from General Motors and a veteran of the U.S. Marines Corps. serving doing the Korean War. Tony is proceeded in death in addition to his parents by a son Michael Slater. He is survived by his wife Wanetia Marie Burkett Slater, and eleven children David Slater, Tony Slater Jr., William Slate, Kenneth Slater, Phillip Slater, Tina Marie Slater, all of Flint, Mich. Raymond Lesoski of Crossville, Tenn., Joseph Freese of Ashland, Ky., Brenda Lesoski of Fla., Heather Lesoski of Mich. and Christian Lesoski of Mo., 36 grandchildren and several great grandchildren, a special cousin Maxwell Phillips of Oklahoma.
Funeral services for Tony will be on Saturday, Sept. 8, 2018 at 11 a.m. by Pastor Clell Lucas at the Lazear Funeral Home Chapel, with entombment in Rose Hill Burial Park Mausoleum. Friends may call at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 7, 2018.
