Susan Catherine Mullins, 72, of Catlettsburg, passed away Monday evening, Nov. 17, 2014, in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.
She was born July 6, 1942, in Ashland, a daughter of the late William T. and Marjorie Lee Hill Arthur. She was also preceded in death by her husband, George William Mullins Jr., in 1993.
Susan was a 1960 graduate of Ashland High School. She received a master's degree in music education and a Rank 1 in education from Morehead State University. She was a member of PSI-A-Province Music Fraternity at Morehead State and the National Teachers Association. She taught elementary music education for the Boyd County School District, and was the band director at Catlettsburg Junior High and co-band director at Boyd County High School, where she taught alongside her lifelong friend, Don Payne. She retired from the district with 28 years of service and then went on to administer General Educational Development tests for 12 years.
Survivors include her loving son, Adam Wayne Mullins of Catlettsburg; a brother, William W. Arthur of Harpers Ferry, W.Va.; two sisters, Mary Lee Arthur of Ashland and Ellen Katie McKenzie of Plano, Texas; a dear cousin, Rose Marie Thomas of Ashland; a dear close friend, Ronda Tamme of Ashland; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 21, 2014, at Rose Hill Burial Park Mausoleum in Ashland by the Rev. John Street.
