Sona Carol Adams Sparks, 73, of Ashland went home to be with her Lord on Tuesday morning, July 10, 2012, in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.
She was born Oct. 19, 1938, in Ashland, a daughter of the late Oscar Earl and Remondia Bartee Adams. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Oscar Gene Adams.
Sona was a devout Christian and a member of Wildwood Baptist Church. She attended Georgetown College and graduated from Morehead State University with a master's degree in education. She taught English and music for two years in the Boyd County School District and four years at Paul G. Blazer High School.
Those left to cherish her memory include her loving husband of 49 years, Edward R. Sparks of Ashland; a son, Dirk Edward Sparks of Ashland; a daughter, Angie Lynn Sparks and her husband, Jerry Paul Billingsley, of Lancaster; two grandchildren, Joshua Paul Billingsley and Amber Lynn Billingsley; and a host of loving extended family members and friends.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, July 13, 2012 at Steen Funeral Home-13th Street Chapel in Ashland by the Rev. Tom Leach. Burial will be in Rose Hill Burial Park in Ashland.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 12, 2012, at the funeral home.
