Russell Rose (1922-2009)
Russell Lee Rose, 86, of Ashland, passed away Friday, March 13, 2009, in Community Hospice Care Center.
Russell was born Aug. 7, 1922, in Willard, Ky., a son of the late Elijah H. and Mollie Wells Rose. Russell proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy as a gunner mate 3rd class during WWII. He retired from CSX after 37 years as a machinist and was a member of Worthington Church of the Nazarene and a former member of Summit Church of the Nazarene. He was a Kentucky colonel and a member of International Association of Machinists.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by three brothers, Ora Rose, Ray Rose and James "Jim" Rose; three sisters, Mae Oakley, Maxine Potts Cooper and Jean De Long and one grandson, Russell Dale Rose.
He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Lora Robinson Rose of Ashland; one son, Homer Dale Rose and his wife, Dr. Michele Bagley, of Ashland; two daughters, Judith Lynn Gambill and her husband, Michael, of Ashland and Lydia Ann Salyers and her husband, James, of Russell; four grandchildren, Michelle (Jamie) Isgrigg, Megan Turner, Andrew "A.J." Rose and Lora J. Rose; and three great-grandchildren, Jayce Edwards, Javid Turner and Kimberlynn Isgrigg.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 18, 2009, at Caniff Funeral Home in Westwood by the Rev. Paul Neal and the Rev. Tom Jackson. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Burial Park in Ashland. Military services will be conducted by Kenova American Legion Post No. 93.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. tonight and one hour before the service Wednesday at the funeral home.
