Rosa Belle Vanover Adkins (1921-2008)
Rosa Belle Vanover Adkins, 87, of Ashland, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, Aug. 25, 2008, in Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital.
Mrs. Adkins was born Jan. 20, 1921, in Rush, Ky., a daughter of the late Andrew F. and Margaret Stewart Vanover. She married Roy Adkins Jr. on July 17, 1965. He preceded her in death in 2006. Also preceding her in death are four sisters, Mary Smith, Dova Pennington, Vicki Roberts and Lucille Pennington, and three brothers, Billy Vanover, Johnnie Vanover and Andrew Vanover.
She was a homemaker, a Kentucky colonel and a member of Rose Hill Baptist Church.
Surviving is a sister, Mildred (Dewey) Smith of Flatwoods. She had many nieces and nephews, but five special nieces, "Rosa's girls" who took great care of Rosa and Roy, Rosetta Shore of Baltimore, Md., Linda Smith of Raceland, Donna (Jr.) Seagraves of Grayson, Rita Tackett of Catlettsburg and Bobbie (Bruce) Lenhoff of Florence, Ky. She also had a special great-nephew, Philip Smith of Raceland, whom she helped raise and was like a grandson to her.
A funeral ceremony in remembrance of Rosa Belle Adkins will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 28, 2008, at Kilgore & Collier Funeral Home on Panola Street in Catlettsburg. A message of comfort will be offered by Dr. Charles Stewart, with a personal eulogy by Pastor Jim Yates. She will be laid to rest in Rose Hill Burial Park in Ashland.
Visitation for family and friends will be from 7 to 9 p.m. today and an hour before services Thursday at the funeral home.
