ASHLAND - Johnny Keith Sparks, 65, of Summit, husband of Sharon Wheeler Sparks, died Tuesday morning, Feb. 7, 2012, in King's Daughters Medical Center following an extended illness.

Mr. Sparks was born Nov. 23, 1946, in Greenup County, a son of Juanita Geraldine Stanley Sparks of Apopka, Fla., and the late John Elbert Sparks. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who will be sadly missed. John was a retired plant operator with the Pregis Corp. and a member of Steelworkers Local 719 and the Ohio carpenters' union.

He was also preceded in death by a loving daughter, Kimberly Dawn Sparks, in 1970.

Surviving, in addition to his devoted wife of 44 years and mother, are two sons, Brian K. Sparks of South Point, Ohio, and David W. Sparks of Greenup; a daughter, April Dawn Murphy and husband Richard of Ashland; 10 loving grandchildren; a brother, Terry Dean Sparks of Lake Helena, Fla.; and three sisters, Joneta K. Whitt of Ashland, Teresa Dale Christie of Albuquerque, N.M., and Dawn René Tyler of Apopka.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 10, 2012, at Preston Family Funeral Home in Ashland. Burial will be in Rose Hill Burial Park in Ashland.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
