Dr. Roger G. Noonan passed away at home March 4, 2017. Roger was born Sept. 9, 1927, in Ashland, to the late Arthur Kelly Noonan and Tina Beam Noonan. He was preceded in death by his son, Eric Michael Noonan; and brothers, James A. and Charles T. Noonan. He was very caring, proud father of three Eagle Scouts and the ultimate gentleman to his final day. Dr. Noonan was a graduate of Ashland High School, Marshall University (BS 1951), University of Louisville (DMD 1955) and University of Michigan (MS 1963). His career in dentistry included teaching, research and the practice of Pedodontics for infants, children, adolescents and the medically challenged. Roger had appointments on the faculties of Indiana University School of Dentistry, University of Louisville Schools of Dentistry and Medicine, University of Pittsburgh Schools of Dentistry and Medicine (Director of Residency Training - Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh) and Loyola School of Dentistry (Director of Education - Pediatric Dentistry). He made numerous scientific presentations and was published in various professional dental journals. His Master's research thesis was presented to the American Association of Dental Research. Professional memberships included American Board of Pedodontics, American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, Kentucky Society of Dentistry for Children (past president) and University of Michigan (Easlick) Graduate Society (past president). Roger served 43 years of active and reserve military duty in the U.S. Navy and U.S. Army retiring as colonel in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the First Christian Church (Disciples Of Christ) in Ashland and served on the Board of Elders. He is survived by his wife, Jenny Eaves Noonan; sons, Roger G. Noonan Jr. and Arthur L. Noonan (Terry Northcutt); a daughter-in-law, Trish R. Noonan; and five grandchildren, Lee, Max, Aimee, Haley and Roger III.; he also leaves behind other family members and special friends. As per his wishes, a graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, March 6, 2017, at Rose Hill Burial Park in Ashland by the Rev. Dr. Isaac W. Nicholson.
