ALEXANDRIA, VA - Dr. Robert Aaron Murray, 56, of Alexandria, Va., formerly of Ashland, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, May 15, 2011, following an extended illness.
He was born Nov. 29, 1954, in Ashland, the son of the late Robert and Jewell Francis Murray.
Aaron was a graduate of Paul G. Blazer High School in Ashland. He received undergraduate degrees in math and physics from William Jewell University in Liberty, Mo., a graduate degree in physics from Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Va., and his doctorate in physics from the University of Kansas in Lawrence, Kan. He had been employed by the University of Kansas in Lawrence and the United States government at Fort Monmouth, Oceanport, N.J.
Aaron is survived by his wife, Candice Murray; his half sister, Karen Murray of Greenup County; his uncle, Robert E. Prichard of Ashland; two cousins, Thomas E. (Susan) Francis of Worthington and Robyn Prichard (John) Vichich of Cranberry Township, Pa.; five cousins once removed, Sarah Francis (Chad) Gabbard of Russell, Rachel Francis (Jerod) Ferguson of Worthington, Abby Francis of Worthington, Robert Vichich of Louisville and Megan Vichich of Cranberry Township; and two cousins twice removed, Olivia Gabbard and Ava Gabbard, both of Russell.
Aaron was also preceded in death by his paternal grandparents; his maternal grandparents, Thomas and Mollie Helton Francis; two aunts, Hazel Francis and Betty Jo Francis Prichard; and two uncles, Thomas Francis Jr. and Jerry Francis.
There will be no visitation. A graveside service will be at Rose Hill Burial Park in Ashland once arrangements have been completed.
