Robert M. "Bob" Mitchell (1923-2009)
Robert M. "Bob" Mitchell, 86, of Russell, Ky., died Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2009, in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.
He was born Jan. 28, 1923, in Boyd County, Ky., the son of the late William Sherman and Martha "Kitty" Baker Mitchell. He was retired from the U.S. Postal Service and a member of First Baptist Church of Cannonsburg and Ashland Elks Lodge 350. He was a Kentucky colonel and a World War II U.S. Navy veteran.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Staley Mitchell.
Survivors include his wife, Ida Marie Daniels Mitchell; a son, Robert Kevin (Nancy) Mitchell of Columbus, Ohio; a grandson, Robert Scott Mitchell of Columbus; a stepdaughter, Jean (Sammy) Bowman of Ironton, Ohio; three stepsons, the Rev. David A. (Sandra) Estep of Harrisburg, Ill., Stephen Michael (Glenna) Estep of Sapulpa, Okla., and Ronald Day (LaTisha) Estep of Patterson, N.J.; and three brothers, James Mitchell of Winterpark, Fla., Russell Mitchell of Speedway, Ind., and Clarence Mitchell of Mooresville, Ind.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 21, 2009, at Miller Funeral Home in Ashland by the Rev. Stanley Williams. Entombment will be in Rose Hill Mausoleum.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Military services will be by Kenova American Legion Post 93.
