Rita Devaney
November 17, 1945 — July 14, 2018
On July 14, surrounded by her loving family Rita Devaney 72, left her earthly home and went to her heavenly home after a short but courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Ashland to the late Lester and Bertha Wells.
Rita worked hard her entire life at various jobs, but she was most proud of her job as a homemaker. Rita's life was her family. She was a loving mother to her six children. Later in life, she ran "Mam's school" where she reared all of her 12 grandchildren in some capacity. She attended countless band concerts, ballgames, plays, dance recitals, and ceremonies where she enthusiastically supported those she loved the most.
Rita was an active member of Oak Street FWB church in Flatwoods for over 40 years where she served as a youth leader, bible school worker, and a choir member.
She is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Eddie Devaney, 6 children, Dawn Rose (Shawn) of Ironton, OH, Kimberly (Jeff) Duty of Wurtland, Vanessa (Charlie) Akers of Ashland, Tonya (Jamie) Campbell of Flatwoods, Danny (Brigette) Devaney of Flatwoods, and Jacob Devaney at home. She also leaves behind 12 grand children: Amber, Brian, Heather, Holli, Cameron, Mykayla, Cynthia Johnathon, Isaac, Eli, Caleb, and Hannah and one great grandchild, Silas.
Her sisters, Linda Ray and Lorraine Kirk, and brothers, Bill Wells, Fred Wells, and Ike Wells preceded her in death. She leaves behind two sisters, Doris Versey and Janet Mullins and one brother, Danny Wells. She will also be missed by one special brother-in-law Dale Devaney as well as a host of friends and loved ones.
Her services will be held 12:00 Thursday July 19, 2018 at Caniff funeral home in Westwood with Cameron Akers, Jamie Campbell and Shawn Rose officiating. Interment will be at Rose Hill Burial Park following the services. Visitation will be Wednesday July 18, 2018 at the funeral home from 6-8.
