Richard Wayne Chapman, 66, of Raceland, passed away at home on Tuesday, April 3, 2012, with his devoted family at his side.
Richard was born Dec. 1, 1945, in West Russell, to the late Russell Vonzo and Sarah Elizabeth Ward-Chapman.
Mr. Chapman was a yardmaster for CSX and a member of Abundant Life United Pentecostal Church. He served his country honorably in the United States Army.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Barry A. Chapman; a brother, Vonzo Chapman; a sister, Phyllis A. McIntyre; and two brothers-in-law, Albert Ison and Bobby Keesee.
Survivors include his loving wife, Elta May-Chapman of Raceland; a son, Wayne Chapman II and his wife, Sherry, of Raceland; a daughter, Christina Y. Chapman of Raceland; a brother, Charles E. Chapman and his wife, Sharon, of Ironton, Ohio; three sisters, Carolyn S. Clark and her husband, Roger, of Flatwoods and Virginia E. Ison and Grace M. Keesee, both of Ashland; a sister-in-law, Alma Chapman of Milton, W.Va.; a brother-in-law, Donald McIntyre of Raceland; a daughter-in-law, Kara Chapman of Huntington, W.Va.; four grandchildren, Shana J. Neal and her husband, Daniel, of South Shore, Anthony W. Chapman and his wife, Marisa, of Raceland, Ronny W. Chapman of Huntington and Dallas L. Chapman of Huntington; a stepgrandchild, Daisy C. Schmeltzer of Kenton, Ohio; four great-grandchildren, Alyssa Jeanette Dixon, Braelyn Jae Dixon, Denyn Mark Neal and Casey Rochelle Chapman; and many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends who will miss him dearly.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, April 6, 2012, at Carman Funeral Home in Flatwoods by Anthony Keaton. Burial will be in Rose Hill Burial Park in Ashland, with military honors by VFW Post 8850 of Ironton, Ohio.
Visitation for family and friends will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today, April 5, 2012, at the funeral home.
