Phyllis Opal Armstrong Hutchinson, 79, of Ashland, passed away Sunday, Sept. 7, 2008, following an extended illness.
Phyllis was born March 13, 1929, in Boyd County, to the late Orville and Bertha Hamm Armstrong. She worked as an insurance agent for the Putnam Insurance Agency and Midland Insurance until she retired. She was a member of Rose Hill Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Vernon Hutchinson; a son, Charles Vernon Hutchinson II; three brothers, Robert Armstrong, Okey Armstrong and Curtis Armstrong; and her stepmother, Ellena Armstrong.
She is survived by two granddaughters, Tawnya Thompson of Ashland and Angela Maston of Winterville, N.C.; four great-grandchildren, Kasie Thompson of Ashland and Amber Brown, Shalin Brown and Christopher Maston, all of Winterville; five brothers, Carol Lee Armstrong of Bakersfield, Calif., and Cecil Armstrong, James Armstrong, Keith Armstrong and Calvin Armstrong, all of Ashland; and a sister, Shirley Murnahan of Ashland.
Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2008, at Rose Hill Burial Park in Ashland by the Rev. Charles Stewart.
Friends may call after 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at Caniff Funeral Home in Westwood.
