Paul D. Haggard - 1925-2011
ASHLAND - Paul D. Haggard, 85, of Ashland, died Monday, May 16, 2011, in Boyd Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
He was born Aug. 2, 1925, in Ashland, the son of the late Herman and Lena Berry Haggard.
He was retired from the U.S. Postal Service and was a World War II Army veteran who served in Company F, 5th Ranger Battalion, with campaigns in North France, Germany and Normandy. He was awarded the Purple Heart, three Battle Stars and the EAME Ribbon. He was a member of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). He was very active in the Ashland Class of 1943, a member and held offices in the Whirlaway Square Dance Club and Lions Club and was a Scout leader with the Tri-State Boy Scout Council.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Edith Bramblette, and four brothers, Herbert Haggard, Russell Haggard, K.B. Haggard and John Haggard.
Survivors include his wife, Naomi Ruth Gussler Haggard; a daughter, Paula Brown and husband Ray of Cornelius, N.C.; a son, Ray Haggard of Lancaster; two sisters, Evelyn Crawford of Ashland and Ellinore Garner of Cannonsburg; and two grandchildren, J.D. Haggard of Lexington and Autumn Brown of Cornelius.
Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Friday, May 20, 2011, at First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Ashland by the Rev. Ike Nicholson and the Rev. Lee Gussler. Burial will be in Rose Hill Burial Park in Ashland.
There will be a military service at the graveside by Kenova American Legion Post 93.
Family will receive friends after 2 p.m. Friday at the church.
Arrangements are under the direction of Miller Funeral Home in Ashland.
