Nelson E. Walker - 1929-2009
Nelson E. Walker, 80, of Westwood, Ky., went home to be with the Lord on Monday, Nov. 23, 2009, at Community Hospice Care Center. He was born July 11, 1929, in Greenup County, to the late John and Ella Hyden Walker.
He retired from Allied Chemical/AK Steel Coke Plant. He worked there for 37 years as a RC Local Operator. He served two years in the Army as a medic during the Korean War from 1952 to 1954. He also served on KYOVA GMA Board of Directors and attended Ironville Independent Baptist Church. He enjoyed praising and serving the Lord through gospel music.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Jauwan George "Bobby" Walker.
He is survived by his two daughters, Carol Boyd and Debbie (Tim) Church, both of Ashland; a sister, Nella Shelton of New Smyrna Beach, Fla.; a special sister-in-law, Wanda Waggoner; four grandchildren, Missy (Phillip) Hager, Heather Messer, Jon (Robin) Church and Jason Boyd; three great-grandchildren, Zach Messer, Austyn Church and Ryleigh Church; and several loving nieces and nephews and a large family of brothers and sisters in the lord.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 29, 2009, by Thorny Artrip, Perry Young and Ed Richardson at Caniff Funeral Home in Westwood. Entombment will follow in Rose Hill Mausoleum. Military services will be conducted by Kenova American Legion Post 93.
Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home and one hour before the service on Sunday.
Pallbearers will be Jason Boyd, Jon Church, Jimmy Kazee, Emory Stambough, Josh Brewer, Tim Church and Travis Ferguson.
