GREENUP - Michael Musser, 75, of Flatwoods, passed away Thursday, May 29, 2014, in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.
Michael was born April 14, 1939, in Ashland, to the late Delbert and Verna Mae Crooks Musser.
He was a 1957 graduate of Ashland High School. He proudly served his country for three years in the U.S. Army National Guard. Michael retired as a pipefitter from AK Steel after 42 years of service. He was a 50 plus-year member of Poage Masonic Lodge No. 325 F&AM, 32nd-degree Mason of Indra Consistory-Valley of Covington Scottish Rite Bodies, El Hasa Shrine Old Car Unit, Northeast Kentucky Fish and Game Club and was a Christian and of the United Methodist Faith.
Mike was a very selfless individual who enjoyed helping schools and others that needed a helping hand. After having an illness that left him with limited physical abilities, he mentored and visited people in a Lucasville assisted living facility with limited physical abilities, donating special and personal items. After becoming a Christian, Mike gave away crosses to anyone that he felt needed one. He loved the ocean, boating, hunting, sports, especially UK basketball, old cars and was an avid trap shooter.
Survivors include his loving wife of 35 years, Barbara McKenzie Musser of Flatwoods; a daughter, Joyce Lynn (Tony) Malone of Pickerington, Ohio; a son, Robert Sean "Bob" Martin of Savannah, Ga.; a sister, Susan Lawley of Orlando, Fla.; three grandchildren, Erica Joy Malone, Ashley Nicole Malone and Olivia Ann Martin; a nephew, Steven Sanders of Orlando; great-niece and great-nephew, Daisy and Jonathan Sanders; two beloved pets that were very special to him, Lucky and Holly; and a host of extended family and friends.
The funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday, June 2, 2014, at Caniff Funeral Home in Westwood, by the Rev. Roger Wireman. Burial will be in Rose Hill Burial Park in Ashland with graveside military services by Kenova American Legion Post 93.
Friends may call after 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Masonic services will be conducted at 12:50 p.m. by officers and brothers of Poage Masonic Lodge No. 325 F&AM.
