Mary Moon

Mary Jo Mellon Moon, 84, of Richmond, VA formally of Hurricane, WV passed away peacefully November 16, 2018 at home surrounded by her family.Mary Jo was born January 25, 1934 in Ironton, Ohio, a daughter of the late Beverly C. Mellon and Sophia B. Mellon.In addition to her parents, Mary Jo was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 61 years Colonel (Ret) John William "Jack" Moon, her brothers, Leslie Gartrell Mellon and Beverly C. Mellon, Jr. and sister-in-law Maudine Moon Pendergast and brothers-in-law Richard Pendergast and Dr. William G. Crews.Mary Jo graduated from Ashland High School in 1952 and attended Sullins College, Bristol, VA.Mary Jo is survived by her children:  Jane Higgins (Marshall) of Richmond, VA, Leslie Cardenas (John) of Dallas, TX and LTC (Ret) John W. Moon, Jr (Kori) of Montgomery, TX. Seven grandsons:  CPT Patrick Higgins of Atlanta, GA, David Higgins of Annapolis, MD, Michael Cardenas of Irving, TX, Matthew Cardenas of Austin, TX, CPT Andrew Moon (Amanda) of Hawker Heights, TX, Ryan and Daniel Moon of Montgomery, TX, and one great granddaughter, Allison May Moon of Hawker Heights, TX.Mary Jo is also survived by her beloved sister, Alka Jean Mellon Crews of Barboursville, WV and numerous nieces and nephews.Mary Jo's funeral will be a 1:00 pm graveside service on Saturday, December 8th at  Rose Hill Burial Park, 3801 13th Street, Ashland, KY with Rev.
