Mary K. Taylor McConnell, 77, of Ashland, died Tuesday, November 13, 2018 at Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital. She was born September 6, 1941 in San Antonio, TX the daughter of the late Luther Douglas and Kathryn Buck Taylor. She was a graduate of Boyd County High School and the University of Kentucky, earning a bachelor’s degree in Education.She was a member of Phi Beta Sigma. She was a retired school teacher, having taught history at Ironton High School, Louisa High School and Riverdale High School in Riverdale, GA. She spent most of her career teaching in the Boyd County School System, where she retired in 1994. She was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Paul Preston McConnell, a sister, Anna Taylor and grandson, Parker McConnell. Survivors include one daughter, Beth (Mitch) Qualls of Ashland; one son, Paul Preston (Clorissa) McConnell II of Huntington, WV; one sister, Paula Taylor of Ashland; one brother, Luther Douglas (Janice) Taylor of Ashland; seven grandchildren, Brandon (Alana) Qualls, Adam Qualls, Emily (Brandon) Barney, Cody McConnell, Samuel McConnell, Zachary McConnell, Alyssa McConnell and seven great grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 PM Saturday, November 17, 2018 at Centenary United Methodist Church by Rev. David Herndon and Rev. Troy Poff. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Burial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM till 8:00 PM Friday at the church.
