Mary Ellen Gifford Groover, 78, of Dayton, Ohio, formerly of Ashland, died Friday, March 30, 2018, at the home of her daughter.
Mary was born Jan. 28, 1940, in Boyd County, a daughter of the late Cecil E. and Lavonia Marie Horn Gifford.
In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Rowe Groover who died in 2015.
She was a homemaker and member of Trace Wesleyan Church at Trace.
Mary is survived by her children and their spouses, Anthony Wayne and Patricia Stevens of Dayton, Ohio, Memphis and Rose Stevens of Miamisburg, Ohio, Judy Lynn Bruce of Dayton, Ohio and Elizabeth Marie Stevens, of Dayton, Ohio; three stepchildren, Rowe Groover of Jacksonville, Fla., Cynthia Burroughs of Lake City, Fla., and Pamela Purnell of Jacksonville, Fla.; two brothers and their spouses, Roy and Barbara Gifford and Charles and Janice Gifford, both of Ashland; three sisters, Geneva Sexton of Ashland, Lavonia Lane of Somerset and Helen (Willie) Tharp of Greenup; 15 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 5, 2018, at Rose Hill Burial Park Mausoleum Chapel by Pastor Walter Wilcox.
There will be no visitation.
Lazear Funeral Home in Ashland is in charge of arrangements.
