WESTWOOD - Marvin Shannon Howard, 78, of Westwood, went to be with the Lord on Friday, Aug. 16, 2013, at St. Mary's Medical Center surrounded by his loving family.
Mr. Howard was born March 5, 1935, in Webbville, a son of the late Rev. Charles and Lena Boggs Howard.
Mr. Howard was a 34-year employee of AK Steel and a former employee of C & O Railroad. He attended Russell High School and his hobbies were auto repairs, hunting and fishing.
Mr. Howard leaves behind his loving wife and soul mate, of 58 years Orene "Phyllis" Daniels Howard, of Ashland; three sons and a daughter, Steven (Darlene) Howard of Olive Hill, Mark (Tammy) Howard and Phillip M. Howard, both of Westwood, and Rhonda (Kris) Howard-Bowman of Mount Jackson, Va.; three grandchildren, Felicia (Paul) Howard-Ratcliff of Ashland, Christopher Howard of Lexington and Kristen Bowman of Mount Jackson, Va.; five great-grandchildren, Alexis French, LeAnna Badger, Logan and Lucas Ratcliff, all of Ashland, and Rylan Howard of Lexington; two stepgrandchildren, Claire Collins and Ray Salyers; four stepgreat-grandchildren Alex Blair, Calab, Jeremey and Braylan Collins; three sisters and two brothers, Joyce (W.T.) Bramblette and Donna Parsons, both of Ashland, and Jean (Johnny) Carr of Greenup, Eddie Howard of West Hyannis Port, Mass., and David (Tootie) Howard of Lynnville, Ohio; two sisters-in-law and two brothers-in-law, Shirley Cordle Stapleton and Ruby Daniels, both of Ashland, Bill Criss of Westwood and Tim Maze of Salt Lick; and a host of extended family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother and three sisters, Gary Howard, Teresa Maze, Betty Criss and Loretta Howard.
Funeral services will be conducted by the Rev. Butch Crum at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2013, at Hilltop Christian Baptist Church in Ashland. Entombment will follow in Rose Hill Burial Park Mausoleum in Ashland. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Caniff Funeral Home.
