Martin L. Robinette Jr. - 1930-2008
Martin L. Robinette Jr., 77, of Cincinnati, Ohio, formerly of Ashland, died Monday, July 28, 2008, in the University of Cincinnati Hospital in Cincinnati.
He was born Nov. 13, 1930, in Boyd County, Ky., the son of the late Martin Luther and Lizzie Stewart Robinette.
He graduated from Boyd County High School in 1947. He was a graduate of the Ashland School of Commerce in 1948 and held degrees from the University of Cincinnati College of Pharmacy (B.S., 1952) and The Ohio State University (M.S., 1954). He served three years (1954-1957) as a pharmacy officer in the U.S. Air Force and was on the staff of the School of Aviation Medicine at Gunter Air Force Base in Montgomery, Ala., retiring with the rank of captain.
He was professor of pharmacy for five years (1957-1962) at Samford University in Birmingham, Ala. He became a pharmaceutical chemist with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in 1962 and served in that capacity for more than 30 years in the Cincinnati District. In 1991, he received a National Commendable Service Award from the FDA commissioner. He taught a Bible class for several years at the Bible Chapel of Delhi Hills in Cincinnati. After his retirement from government service in 1992, he studied at the Cincinnati Bible Seminary. He taught at the Bible Institute of Cincinnati in the early 1970s. He was a member of the Gideons Bible Society and American Legion Post 76 and was a Kentucky colonel.
He was registered to practice pharmacy in Ohio and Kentucky.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by two sisters, Amanda Robinette and Ellen Robinette; and four brothers, Manus L. Robinette, Charles H. Robinette, Thomas E. Robinette and James Elmer Robinette.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 1, 2008, at Rose Hill Mausoleum by the Rev. Charles E. Stewart. Burial will be in Rose Hill Burial Park.
Friends may call from noon to 1 p.m. Friday at the mausoleum.
Miller Funeral Home in Ashland is in charge of arrangements.
