Marie Williams (1924-2010)
On Jan. 7, 2010, surrounded by her family, Marie Kirk Williams, 85, of Ashland, Ky., ended a long battle with Parkinson's disease and went to be with her Lord.
Born to the late Augustus and Minnie Kirk on Oct. 25, 1924, in Laura, Ky., she was raised in Martin County, Ky. She was married for many years to Jasper M. Williams and gave her all to six children, three children of her own, Cheryl Hall of Roseville, Mich., Tammy Steele (Brian) of Ashland and Pete Williams (former wife, Jennie), also of Ashland and three children who came with the marriage, Nancy Diamond of Lexington, Ky., Roger Williams of Franklin Furnace, Ohio, and Donald Williams of Ashland. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Gladys Parsley, Ione Sartin and Odell Teeters as well as two brothers, Clyde Kirk and James C. Kirk.
She is survived by one sister, Opal Varney of Turkey Creek, Ky. She leaves behind 12 grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren. After raising her family, she worked until retirement at Daniel's Bakery in Ashland. She was a life-long member of the Church of the Brethren.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 11, 2010 at Steen Funeral Home-Central Avenue Chapel in Ashland by the Rev. Brian Steele. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Burial Park.
Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
