Margaret Ann (Cannon) Henneman, 96, formerly of Ashland, passed away on November 2 at her residence in Athens, GA.
Mrs. Henneman was a retired Ashland Independent Schools' Business teacher, at Paul G. Blazer High School, and Coles-Putnam and Verity Middle Schools. She was beloved by many students across the years.
Born in Ironton, Lawrence County, OH, she was the fifth child of Albert and Augusta (Geswein) Cannon. She is preceded in death by her husband Charles Robert "Bob" Henneman, her parents; 8 siblings: Bert, Rita, Ruth, Kathleen, Bill, Jack, Gene, Tom; and 4 nieces: Mary, Cindy, Paula, and Judy.
Margaret is survived by a large loving family, in whom she delighted, including generations of many nieces & nephews, sisters-in-law Marilyn (Gene) Cannon and Sally (Tom) Cannon, and 3 daughters: Barbara "Bobbie" Henneman of Pennsylvania; Linda Henneman of Georgia, and daughters Eliza Rothstein of Oregon and Margo Rothstein of Colorado and their dad, Mitchell Rothstein of Georgia; Carol Jean Henneman-Spence, her husband Dan Spence, and his son Paul Spence, all of New Mexico.
She was a graduate of St. Joseph High School in Ironton, married a former Holy Family High School basketball star, and while raising children and working part-time, started taking classes at Ashland Community College and 10 years later received a bachelor's degree from Marshall University. One of her most prized possessions was her class ring from Marshall. She subsequently earned a Master's in Business Education from Morehead State University.
Prior to her career in teaching, she worked for Dr. Hugh L. Ray, the PepsiCola Co., Ashland Inc., and the E.J. Merrill Drug Company (Ironton).
She was a member several Ashland organizations, including Holy Family Church, Boyd County Retired Teachers, Beta Sigma Phi sorority (Epsilon Master Chapter), Friends of Hospice, Elks Auxiliary #350, and Roadrunners. She was an avid bridge and euchre player, a charter member of the Arcoettes, and a much-loved Girl Scout Leader to Troop 41.
She enjoyed talking to everyone, and when she moved to Georgia in 2013, she made new friends, but remained loyal to the UK Wildcats. She had a beautiful smile, a warm laugh, and a generous spirit.
