Leona Mae Tufts (1910-2008)
Leona went to be with her Lord on Saturday, March 8, 2008, in Jackson Medical Care Facility, 524 Lansing Ave., Jackson, Mich.
She was born Oct. 13, 1910, in Rush, Ky., a daughter of the late William O. Tufts and America (Deerfield) Tufts.
She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Edward Tufts and Raymond Tufts.
Leona gave her heart to the Lord on Oct. 17, 1931 and was baptized by the Rev. Thomas Alexander and Fred Clara. She was a member of Kilgore United Methodist Church where she previously directed the choir, was a soloist, served as a board member, Sunday School teacher, and delegate to church camp and served as parents caregiver.
Surviving are special friends including all of Leona's church family, Joyce Thomas (a special friend and caregiver), Pearl Woods with special love to family and many loving friends and neighbors; nieces and nephews, George and Kaye Westcott of Indiana, Mike and Pam Pennington of Tennessee, Gary and Teresa Schultz of Michigan, Patricia Wilson of Michigan, Thomas and Kathy Rimmer of Pennsylvania, Donald and Karen Tufts of Ohio, Bill and Gail Burke of Tennessee, Jim and Brenda Fox of West Virginia, Rick and Carolyn Miller of Kentucky, and James and Joan Mangus of West Virginia; many great-nieces and nephews; and one sister, Eloise Pennington of Jackson.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 13, at Kilgore United Methodist Church, 14630 Ky. 854, Rush and conducted by the pastor of the church, the Rev. Fred Wiles. Internment will immediately follow at Rose Hill Burial Park.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 12, 2008 at Lazear Funeral Home, 1632 Central Ave., Ashland, Ky., and at 10 a.m. Thursday at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Vaughn Thomas missions at Kilgore United Methodist Church in Rush.
Pallbearers will be George Westcott, Gary Schultz, Tommy Jo Lucus, Donald Tufts, Richard Westcott and Robert Westcott.
