CATLETTSBURG - Kelly D. Harper Jr. went to be with the Lord at 11:30 p.m. July 19 in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland surrounded by his family.
Kelly was a lifelong resident of Catlettsburg and devoted many hours to the restoration of the city he loved.
Kelly was born Aug. 28, 1936, in Rife Hospital in Kenova, W.Va. He was the son of the late Kelly Harper Sr. and Clara Fry Harper. Kelly was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
Kelly was a graduate of Hargrave Military Academy and Marshall University. He was a member of First United Methodist Church. He never missed an opportunity to share his faith and love for the Lord. He loved the Lord, his family, his friends and Catlettsburg. He will be missed by all.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years Emma Jane Harper; two daughters, Susan Spencer and Clara Boggs; three grandchildren, Jenifer Wada, Hope Boggs and Veronica (Brandon) Hope; a great-grandchild, Dawson Wada; two cousins, Jodi Lambert and Sammie Lambert; a special friend, Don Nichols; and numerous loving family and friends.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 23, 2014, at Kilgore & Collier Funeral Home in Catlettsburg by Pastor Charles Allen. Cemetery services will be private.
Friends may call after 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
