Juanita Marie Williams Kocio (1921-2008)
Juanita Marie Williams Kocio, 86, of Ashland, died Wednesday morning in King's Daughters Medical Center following an extended illness.
Juanita was born May 6, 1921, in Paintsville, Ky., a daughter of the late John S. and Bertha Wheeler Williams.
She was a 1943 graduate of Morehead Teachers College and received her master's degree from Morehead State University. She began her teaching career at Meade Memorial and Oil Springs schools in Johnson County, Ky., before transferring to Ashland City Schools, where she taught and served as food service administrator until her retirement in 1982. Juanita served as member and officer of the Heritage Women's Club. She was a member of the Kentucky Retired Teachers Association and the Boyd County Retired Teachers Association. She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church and a former member of Centenary United Methodist Church, holding various local and district offices in the United Methodist Women's group.
She was preceded in death in 1977 by her husband of 34 years, Dimitri "Mike" Kocio, and was also preceded by two sisters, Beatrice Williams Pack and Audrey Mae Williams.
Surviving are two daughters, Georgia Roberts and husband Wendell of Ashland, Ky., and Cindy Justice and husband Charles Jr. of Cross Lanes, W.Va.; and five grandchildren, Christen Justice McDougal and husband Don, Andrew Roberts, Matthew Justice, Nicholas Justice and Michael Justice.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Preston Family Funeral Home in Ashland by the Rev. Troy Poff.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Rose Hill Burial Park.
