Johnnie H. Lemaster - 1937-2008
Johnnie H. Lemaster, 70, of Ashland, Ky., passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2008, following a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born Sept. 22, 1937, in Johnson County, Ky., a son of the late Plennie and Anna Tackett Lemaster.
He was a member of Locust Grove United Baptist Church and retired from the shipping department at AK Steel. He was a U.S. Army veteran and Kentucky colonel and a member of VFW Post 76 and the Johnson County Historical Society.
Johnnie loved his family and was passionate about his studies in genealogy, having recently fulfilled a longtime dream by publishing a book about Lemaster family history.
Johnnie was also preceded in death by two sisters, Jeanette Lemaster and Darlene McKenzie, and two brothers, Wallace Franklin Lemaster and James E. Lemaster (MIA Korean Conflict).
Surviving are his wife of 42 years, Judy Groves Lemaster; and two daughters, Tracy and husband David Bunch of Lexington, Ky., and Amy and husband Rusty Gray of Ashland.
He also leaves to cherish his memory his granddaughters, Emily and Olivia Bunch; his grandsons, Dalton and Taylor Gray; a brother, Garland Lemaster of Hagerhill, Ky.; and five sisters, Grace Cochran of Fairborn, Ohio, Irene Auxier of Red Bush, Ky., Jo Ann Blanton of Paintsville, Ky., Lillian Lemaster of Columbus, Ohio, and Roberta McCarty of Hagerhill.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Preston Family Funeral Home in Ashland. Entombment will be in the Rose Hill Mausoleum, with military rites by VFW Post 8850 of Ironton, Ohio.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
