John Wesley Walker, 96, of Ashland, KY, passed away on March 24, 2019 at Kingsbrook Lifecare Center. He was born on October 25, 1922 in Collinsdale, WV to the late Raymond F. and Cecil M. Vandall Walker. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister Betty Schoolcraft, an infant brother Billy Ray, brothers James and Thomas Walker and a great granddaughter Megan Johnson.
John Retired from Armco Steel and was a WWII Army Veteran serving in the South Pacific for 28 months. He was an active member of Central Baptist Church where he was former treasurer and deacon. He proudly attended the first Boy Scout Jamboree in Washington, DC in 1937.
He is survived by his wife Dorothy Lowe Walker of Ashland; daughters Beverly Johnson (Tom) of Sumter, SC and Pamela Poskitt (Tom) of Ashland, KY; and grandchildren Jennifer Franklin, Jane Blankenship (Bob), Laura Franklin, Wesley Thompson (Melanie), Christopher Johnson; Great grandchildren Brandon Franklin (Jodie), Eric Franklin, Rebecca Franklin, Adam Franklin (Sam) , Nicholas Blankenship, Andrew Franklin, Maya Blankenship, Madelynn Thompson, Eli Johnson and Avery Thompson.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, March 28 at Steen Funeral Home-Central Avenue Chapel and will be officiated by Pastor Joed Rice and Pastor Rob Parsons.
Entombment will follow at Rose Hill Burial Park Mausoleum. Military rites will provided by Kenova American Legion Post #93. Visitation will be at the funeral home Wednesday evening from 6:00-8:00 PM
