John Groves - 1924-2009
John Groves, 84, of Ashland, Ky., died Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2009, in Community Hospice Care Center on Pollard Road in Ashland.
Mr. Groves was born March 26, 1924, in Ashland, a son of the late Jess and Ida Groves.
In addition, he was preceded in death by his wives, Anna Lucille Conley Groves in 1962 and Estella Collinsworth Groves in 2007; and two sons, Ricky Dale Groves in 2000 and Joel Hall in 2004.
He was retired superintendent of Ike Stephens & Sons Construction Co. He was a member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America Local 472 and Unity Baptist Church. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran.
Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, David Keith (Cheri) Blanton of Flatwoods, Ky.; two daughters, Carolyn Keeney of Ashland and Sheery Blanton Tierney of Lexington, Ky.; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 13, 2009, at Lazear Funeral Home in Ashland by Dr. Floyd Paris. Burial will be in Rose Hill Burial Park.
Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 12, 2009, at the funeral home.
