Joe E. Pitchford, 83, of Ashland, passed away May 28, 2013, in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.
He was born May 12, 1930, in Liberty, W.Va., to Graves and Jessie Kings Pitchford. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Charles Pitchford, and sisters Betty Lemle and Jackie Arndt.
He was retired from FCI as a corrections officer and maintenance supervisor. He served proudly in the Korean War in the U.S. Air Force and was past president and a representative of AFGE Union 1286. He was a member of BPO Elks Lodge 350 and Meade Station Church of God.
Survivors include his loving wife, Gladys Bias Pitchford of Ashland; sons Dan Pitchford and wife Jan of Stockbridge, Ga., and David Pitchford and wife Jean Marie of Louisville; and a grandson, Chase Pitchford.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 1, 2013, at Steen Funeral Home-13th Street Chapel in Ashland by Pastor Rob Jordan. Entombment will be in Rose Hill Burial Park Mausoleum in Ashland, with military rites by Kenova American Legion Post 93.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home .
