ASHLAND - Jody Bocook Akers, 47, of Ashland, went to be with her Lord, surrounded by her loving family, on Monday, Feb. 6, 2012, in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.
Jody was born July 28, 1964, in Huntington, W.Va. She was the daughter of Alan and Sandra Lawhon Bocook of Catlettsburg. Jody graduated from Boyd County High School class of 1982 and Ashland Community College in 2000. She owned and operated a family care home and was a faithful member of Catlettsburg Church of God, touching many lives through her ministry with the Clothing Closet. She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother, and she devoted her life to her family.
Along with her parents, she is survived by her adoring husband, Ted Akers, and their children, Holly Akers and her son, Teshawn, of Ashland and Jeff Akers of Catlettsburg; sisters Laura Neal (Mike "New") of Catlettsburg, Lisa Appleby (Jason) of New Albany, Ind., and Jennifer Sang (Keith) of Salt Rock, W.Va.; her mother- in-law, Ann Akers; her brothers-in-law, Dean Akers (Sarah) of Catlettsburg and Amos Akers (ME) of Manassas, Va.; and her sisters-in-law, Rhonda Lee Erskins (Bob) of Phoenix, Ariz., and Debbie Potter (Brian) of Ashland.
She was preceded in death by her father-in-law, Ijellan Akers.
Funeral services for Jody will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 9, 2012, at Catlettsburg Church of God, 105 36th St., Catlettsburg. Mike Neal and Pastor Andy Turner will officiate. Final rest will be in Rose Hill Burial Park in Ashland.
Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today and an hour before services Thursday at the church.
Neal Funeral Home on Center Street in Catlettsburg is in charge of arrangements.
