Joan Spears

Joan Robinson Spears, 89, of Carneys Point, N.J., formerly of Ashland, died Thursday, Feb. 14, 2013, at the residence of her daughter.

Joan was born Sept. 17, 1923, in Pikeville, a daughter of the late Jay and Minnie Damron Robinson.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd Bruce Spears; a son, Lloyd Bruce Spears; and brothers Carl Robinson and Truman Robinson.

Mrs. Spears was a cashier for many years with the Kroger Co. in Fort Wright and was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include her daughter, Carol Sue Harding and husband Wally of Carneys Point; a daughter-in-law, Ruby Spears of Wurtland; sisters Joyce Hall and husband Johnnie and Janice Parsons and husband Norman, all of Ashland; grandchildren Jay Allen Spears of Smithfield, Todd Harding of Carneys Point and Tammy Lynn of Chesapeake, Va.; and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. today, Feb. 20, 2013, at Steen Funeral Home-13th Street Chapel in Ashland by Brother Tom Stephens. Burial will be in Rose Hill Burial Park in Ashland.

Visitation for family and friends will be after noon today at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to Community Hospice, 1480 Carter Ave., Ashland, KY 41101.
