Janice Ray Boocks, 83, of Ashland, went to be with the Lord on Friday, Sept. 19, 2014, in Lexington, N.C.
Mrs. Boocks was born March 28, 1931, in Olive Hill, a daughter of the late Willis Kiser and Velma Mocabee Kiser Ham.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Samuel L. Boocks; and her stepfather, Morrison Ham, who raised her.
She was a retired registered nurse for King's Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, a 1949 graduate of Ashland High School. She attended the University of Kentucky and graduated from St. Mary's School of Nursing.
Surviving are two daughters, Mary (Steve) Townsend of Mooresville, N.C., and Laura (Frank) Chambers of Ashland; one son, Samuel Boocks of Ashland; three sisters, Rose Harrison of Connecticut, Barb Justice of Louisville and Mary Ellen Wheeler of California; two grandchildren, Candace Chambers and Jeffrey Chambers; and her dog, Mitzi.
A graveside service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2014, at the Rose Hill Burial Park in Ashland by Dr. Tom Melvin.
