James Elmer McCormick, 90, of Ashland, passed away Saturday morning, March 23, 2019, at his residence.
He was born January 11, 1929, in Carter County, Kentucky, a son of the late Elmer and Ruth McGlone McCormick. In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by sisters, Marie, Florence Guinn, Helen Kiser and Irene Davis.
James retired from Armco Steel after 42 years of service. He spent two years in the U.S. Army and was interviewed by Prime Minister Anthony Eden of Great Britain during the Korean War. He was a Christian and attended Straight Creek Nazarene Church and Liberty Baptist Church. He enjoyed farming but most of all he was a loving and devoted family man.
Survivors include his loving wife of 67 years Geneva Fannin McCormick of Ashland; two sons, Kevin McCormick of Lexington, KY, and Gary (Mary) McCormick of El Dorado Hills, CA; daughter, Jeannie (Ron) Patton of Ashland; sisters, Lorene Schofield of Circileville,OH, and Betty McCleese of Carter City, KY; grandchildren, Rhonda Bradley, Scott Patton, Natasha Vaughan, Whitney, Nathan, Brandon and Angel McCormick, Ginny Gottstein and Brittney Kamerer; great grandchildren, Joshua and Justin Bradley, Maranda Calhoun, Heather and Kimberly Patton, Bella and Lily Vaughan and Ben and Sean Gottstein; and 1 great-great grandchild, Kalijah Calhoun.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 26, 2019, at Steen Funeral Home 13th Street Chapel with Rev. Randy Biggs and Rev. Dan Bridges officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Burial Park where military honors will be provided by the U. S. Army and American Legion Kenova Post 93.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Tuesday, at the funeral home.
