Lee Hale (1928-2010)
Iuca "Lee" Steele Hale, 81, wife of Seibren Hale of Ashland passed away Thursday, April 1, 2010, following an extended illness.
Lee was born July 4, 1928, in Kenova, W.Va., to the late Monteville and Polly Ann Ross Steele.
She was a member of Moore Street Tabernacle and was a former vice president of the Ashland Babe Ruth baseball league for 19 years. She helped build the 5th Street field and helped get the Blackburn Avenue field started.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers, Youngie Steele, Simpson Steele, Frank Steele and George Steele; a sister, Amy Gipson; and a grandson, Kenneth Cornwell, Jr.
Survivors include her loving husband of 62 years, Seibren Hale of Ashland; a son, Seibren Rayburn Hale and his wife Susan of Ashland; a daughter, Gladys Cornwell and her husband Ken of Ashland; a sister, Gladys Crabtree of Ashland; one grandchild, James Patrick (Deena) Mays; two great-grandchildren, James Brandon Mays and Chelsea Jean Mays; a stepgreat-grandson, Samuel Dane (Michelle) Rayburn and two stepgreat-great-grandchildren, Shelby and Shayla Rayburn.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, April 5, 2010 at Caniff Funeral Home in Westwood by Pastors Danny Pancake, Mike Greene and Gary Wurts. Music will be by J. R. Adkins and His Own. Entombment will follow in Rose Hill Mausoleum in Ashland.
Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
