Harry S. "Penny" Pennington, 92, of Ashland, passed from this life in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland on Thursday, Aug. 23, 2012, following several months of care at Woodland Oaks.
He was born Nov. 5, 1919, in Ashland to the late James. L. and Lillian A. Pennington. He was predeceased by a brother, James Pennington, and an infant brother.
Harry was a retired assistant freight clerk of Chesapeake and Ohio Railway. He was a committed disciple of Christ and was active in the First Church of God in Ashland for more than 60 years.
He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Geneva Pennington; daughter, Darlene (Tom) Jones of Manchester, Ohio; son, Greg (Regina) Pennington of Chillicothe, Ohio; sister, Glada Smith of Hillsboro, Ohio; seven grandsons, Eric (Diana) Blankenship of Mandeville, La., Seth (Jamie) Blankenship of Manchester, Ohio, Josh Blankenship of Cincinnati, Ohio, Tim Blankenship of Portsmouth, Ohio, J.J. (Laura) Pennington of Vandalia, Ohio, Casey (Fallon) Pennington of Woodbridge, Va., and Steven Pennington of Baltimore, Md.; nieces, Carla Kay Smith of Hillsboro, Ohio, and Jana (Kevin) Raedy; and seven great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 27, 2012, at Steen Funeral Home-Central Avenue in Ashland and will be conducted by family and friends. Entombment will follow in Rose Hill Burial Park Mausoleum in Ashland.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until service time Monday, Aug. 27, 2012, at the funeral home.
