Harold Vernon Thomas, 81, of Flatwoods, passed away Saturday, Aug. 30, 2014, in Cabell Huntington Hospital.
He was born in Dwale, in Floyd County, to the late Miles and Alma June Callison-Thomas.
Mr. Thomas was also preceded in death by his first wife of 51 years, Janice Burchell-Thomas, his second wife of 91a��2 years, Inge Mcleod; a brother, Frieldan Thomas; and two sisters, Bonnie Lois McGuire and Emma Elizabeth Nelson.
He was a 38-year founding member of South Point First Church of God, where he served his God in many capacities, including chairman of the board, treasurer and chairman of services.
Mr. Thomas retired from National Mine Service Co. in the 1980s and then went to work for CSX, where he was a machinist. He was a businessman, having co-owned a candy store in Flatwoods called Jane's Unique Creations. Harold served his country honorably in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.
He leaves behind a loving and devoted family, including his wife, Anyce Fields-Thomas of Flatwoods; two daughters, Terry Charlene Stevens and husband Perry of Catlettsburg and Deborah Ann Stevens of Flatwoods; three precious granddaughters; a grandson he dearly loved; eight great-grandchildren who put many smiles on his face; six stepdaughters; three stepsons; a brother, Lowell D. Thomas of Dry Ridge; a sister, Linda Faye Rice of Dwale; and many friends and church family, all of whom will miss him dearly.
The funeral will be at noon Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2014, at Carman Funeral Home in Flatwoods. Entombment will be in Rose Hill Burial Park in Ashland.
