WESTWOOD - Goldie Marie Francis Hodgens, 86, widow of Roy Hodgens died Saturday, Feb. 11, 2012, in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.
She was born Dec. 9, 1925, in Westwood, a daughter of the late Sylvester and Clora Moore Francis.
She graduated from Marshall University and was a retired schoolteacher in the the Fairview Independent School District.
She was a member of Fairview Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school and received the Sunday School Teacher of the Year award in 1994-95. She was a member of the Kentucky State Teachers Retirement Association and the Marshall University Alumni Association.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Jeff Hodgens; a brother, Norman Francis; and two sisters, Loretta Hobbs and Carma Jameson.
She is survived by two sisters, Garnet (Harold) McCaleb of Huntington and Patricia Scarbrough of Russell; two brothers, Otis Francis of Ashland and Mike (Jane) Francis of Westwood; a sister Shirley Conley of Grayson; three grandsons, Jeffrey Hodgens and Jason Hodgens, both of Ashland, and Tyler Hodgens of Catlettsburg; a special friend, Harry Thomas of Russell; and a host of extended family and friends.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2012, at Caniff Funeral Home in Westwood by the Rev. Mike Rice and Rob Francis. Entombment will be in Rose Hill Burial Park in Ashland. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
