ASHLAND - Geraldine Fannin Sawyer, 85, of Ashland, died Thursday, Oct. 7, 2010.
She was born Oct. 18, 1924, in Ashland, a daughter of the late James Curtis and Viola Kirk Fannin. She was the widow of William F. Sawyer, who passed away on July 11, 1998.
She was a longtime employee of Ben Williamson Co. and retired from Kentucky-West Virginia Gas Co. For 36 years, she was a member of the Poage Chapter of the DAR and a lifetime member of First United Methodist Church, where she served as secretary to the official board, chairman of Circle No. 10, secretary of the campus ministry and for several years as lead teacher for the second grade Sunday school class.
Survivors include a son, Col. Gerald B. Thompson, retired, U.S. Army; three grandsons, William, James and Philip, all of Fairfax, Va.; and a sister, Virginia F. Jordan of Berea.
There will be no visitation.
A private entombment service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 9, 2010, at Rose Hill Burial Park Mausoleum by the Rev. John Street.
Contributions may be sent to First United Methodist Church of Ashland or a favorite charity.
Miller Funeral Home in Ashland is in charge of arrangements.
