Garrett Hignite

Garrett H. Hignite, 103, of Ashland went to be with his Heavenly Father, surrounded by his loving family, on May 26, 2012, in the Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.
He was born on Sept. 3, 1908, in Carter County to the late Frank T. and Hattie Ray Hignite. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 68 years, Dorothy Marie Hignite, in 2009.
He was a member of the Westwood Church of God and served in the U.S. Army in WWII. He retired from Armco Steel Corp. with 29 years of service.
Survivors include a son, Gretchel Hignite and wife, Cathy, of Madison, Ala.; two daughters, Ruth Phelps of Boyd County, and Ava Miller and husband, Ricky, of Ashland; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; and a sister, Lucille Johnson of Ashland.
Funeral Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 29, 2012, at Steen Funeral Home - 13th Street Chapel in Ashland, officiated by Pastor Chris Keeton. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Burial Park in Ashland.
Visitation will be after noon on Tuesday at the funeral home.
