Gabriele H. Proffitt - 1934-2009
Gabriele H. Proffitt, 74 of Russell, Ky., passed away Sunday, Feb. 22, 2009, in King's Daughters Medical Center.
Gabriele was born Oct.10, 1934, in Manheim, Germany, a daughter of the late Hilmult and Katie Buchlaub Hundinger.
Gabriele and her husband Bobby were married three times, first by a Justice of the Peace in Ban-Norheim, Germany, on June 19, 1954. This union was not recognized by the Army, therefore, they were then married by an Army chaplain and finally in a church ceremony at St. Lutheran Church in Weinheim, Germany.
Gabriele worked in the Russell High School cafeteria for 22 years and upon retiring, to occupy her spare time, she then worked at Hills Department Store for 12 years. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church.
Survivors include her loving husband of 55 years, Bobby Proffitt of Russell; one brother, Vanna Hundinger of Manheim; four sisters, Helga Cross of Oldtown, Maine, and Gertrude Mignot, Ursula Rottenfusun, and Burgetta Kalvman, all of Manheim; two brothers-in-law, Charles (Carol) Proffitt of Flatwoods and Everett (Arletta) Proffitt Jr. of Baltimore, Md.; and a sister-in-law, Shirley (French) Maggard of Ironville, Ky.
Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 26, 2009 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Ashland, Ky., by Father John Noe. Entombment will follow in Rose Hill Burial Park.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday with a Prayer Service beginning at 6 p.m. at Caniff Funeral Home in Westwood.
