Franklin Leroy Adams (1944-2008)
Franklin Leroy Adams, age 63, of Ashland, Ky., died suddenly Sunday evening, July 20, 2008 in Virginia Beach Sentera General Hospital in Virginia Beach.
He was born Nov. 30, 1944, in Ashland, a son of the late Charles Edward Adams and the late Zeolla Darby Adams Ward.
He retired from AK Steel after 38 years of service.
Frank was a born again Christian who attended the First Baptist Church of Cannonsburg. During his life, he served as president and co-founder of the Catlettsburg/Boyd Optimist Club, co-founder and chairman of the Boyd County J.F.L., Eidson Elementary basketball coach, officer and coach of Boyd National Little League, Optimist Girls softball and basketball coach and officer, Summit Elementary Booster Club founder and president, basketball coach for Summit Elementary 4th, 5th, and 6th grades, Boyd County Elementary basketball chairman, youth soccer coach, Boyd County Quarterback Club president, vice president of the Boyd County Hardwood Club, Boyd County substitute teacher, and Boyd County High and Summit Elementary site-based council member.
He loved dirt track racing, golf, farming, hunting, fishing and working with youth in the community. He never met a stranger, loved helping people and was always quick to lend a helping hand. He was a precious husband, loving father, grandfather and a devoted friend who will be missed by all.
Surviving are his stepfather, George Ward of South Point, Ohio; his wife of 27 years, Connie Gail Johnson Adams of Ashland; five sons, David Wayne Adams, Franklin Dow Adams, Marcus Galen Adams and wife, Sheena, James Edward "Jimmy" Adams, and Daniel Lee Adams, all of Ashland; a daughter, Amber Diane Ferguson and husband, William of Lexington, Va.; brother, Gary Adams and wife, Shirley of Ashland; sister, Gloria Martin of Ashland; nine grandchildren, Greg Adams, Taylor Adams, Tyrah Adams, Trey Clark, Zach Adams, Bryce Stevens, Liam Ferguson, Tucker Adams and Keagan Adams; and a great-grandchild, Carson Botz.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, July 24, 2008 at the Steen Funeral Home-Marshall Steen Chapel in Ashland by Pastor Stan Williams. Burial will be in Rose Hill Burial Park.
Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. tonight, July 23, 2008 at Boyd County Middle School.
