Fannie Ganette (Thompson) Mays, 71, of Piketon, Ohio went home to be with her Lord on Sunday, August 10, 2008 in Pike Community Hospital, Waverly, Ohio. Janet, as she was fondly called by all who knew her, was born June 3, 1937 in Carter County, Kentucky, the daughter of the late Clyde & Nell (Payner) Thompson. She is survived by five daughters: Veatrice Cade, Retha Godwin and husband Tom, Paula Beavers, and Rhonda Parker, all of Piketon and Angie Miller and husband Johnny of South Point, Ohio; two sons: Neil "Doug" Mays and wife Melodie of Ironton, Ohio and Stan Mays and wife Tammy of Piketon. Janet was so proud of her grandchildren and is survived by 19 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. Janet leaves behind four brothers: Clyde Thompson Jr. and wife Christine and Ronnie Thompson and wife Judy all of Mansfield, Ohio, Michael Thompson and wife Shirley of Maysville, Kentucky, and Randy Thompson and wife Randa of Piketon and five sisters: Pat Lawhorn and husband Elgin and Diane Heffner and husband Ike, all of Beaver, Ohio, Carolyn Bassin and husband Allen and Evelyn Bassin and husband Larry, all of Mansfield, and Vanessa Finerty and husband Gary of Mansfield. Janet was preceded in death by her husband, Cornelius Mays, who passed away in 1984, a son, Thomas Mays, a grandson, Jason Fetter, and a sister, Sharon Thompson. Janet attended Souls' Harbor Church, Wakefield, Ohio. Our loss is Heaven's gain and Janet will surely be missed by all who knew her. Her quick smile and kindness was a blessing to all who had the privilege to know her. Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 13, 2008 at the Boyer Funeral Home, Waverly with Rev. Jason Rhoads officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery, Ashland, Kentucky. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4-8 p.m. on Tuesday. www.boyerfuneral.com
