ELIZABETH MILLER

Elizabeth "Libby" Hogan Miller, 101, of Boyd County, entered into eternal life, Thursday, Feb. 14, 2017, in King's Daughters Medical Center in Ashland. The Boyd County native was born June 10, 1915, to late Drew and Ola Hogan. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 53 years, Joe F. Miller; her two sisters, Goldia Love and Ruth Hogan; her brother, Shelby Hogan; her son, Joe Hogan Miller; and her grandson, Thomas Joseph Andrew Miller. Elizabeth was a Boyd County High School graduate where she played on the school's first women's basketball team. She attended Eastern Kentucky University, Marshall University and later graduated from Morehead State University. She enjoyed more than 30 years of teaching. She began her career at a one room school house and later retired from Garner Elementary School. Elizabeth was an excellent teacher and a favorite of many. She not only taught the basics in her kind and gentle way but also taught thankfulness, respect, and compassion. She had the honor to be inducted into Boyd County Teacher's Hall of Fame. She was the oldest lifetime member of the East Fork United Methodist Church. She taught Sunday school class for many years, held several church offices and served as President of the United Methodist Women. Elizabeth was a member of Trace Homemakers and worked as a volunteer at Cannonsburg Food Pantry. She was a member of Greenhill Chapter of Eastern Star where she served as Worthy Matron. She was a member of Retired Teachers Association, chairing the scholarship committee. Libby was an avid University of Kentucky Fan. Elizabeth, better known as Queen Elizabeth by her family, will forever be remembered for her loving nature, positive attitude, lust for life and her beautiful smile. She is survived by her daughter, Ruth Ann (Mark) Dunn of Dallas; her daughter-in-law, Rena Miller of Ashland; five grandchildren, John (Lisa) Miller of Chattanooga, Josh Dunn of Dallas, Brian (Debbie) Dunn of Dallas, Shelly (Aaron) Foreman of Austin, Texas and Erin Lawler of Dallas; twelve great-grandchildren, Lauren Miller of Lexington, Jordan, Ashton, Peyton and Nikolai Miller of Chattanooga, Brennan, Jackson and Reagan Foreman of Austin, Texas, Megan, Harrison, and Pierce Dunn of Dallas, Texas and Finn Lawler of Dallas; two nieces, Judy (Gary) Curtis of Vanceburg and Barbara Steele LaVake of Virginia City, Nev.; a nephew, John Steele of Richmond, Va.; a great-niece and nephew, Lesley Curtis of Columbus and Drew Curtis (Maggie) of Cincinnati, Ohio; a great-great-niece, Annaleigh Curtis of Cincinnati; and special friends, Catherine and Ronnie Sadler, Rosa Castro, Juanita Mendoza and Lisa Graham. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 18, 2017, at East Fork United Methodist Church with Richie Gindlesperger officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Burial Park in Ashland. Pallbearers will be John Miller, Mark Dunn, Josh Dunn, Gary Curtis, Drew Curtis, Brian Dunn and Ronnie Sadler. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 17, 2017, at Neal Funeral Home in Catlettsburg and after 10 a.m. Saturday at the church.
