Opal's Story
Opal Earlene Spears, 95, of Ashland, entered her heavenly home Feb. 6, 2017, in Doverwood Nursing Home in Fairfield, Ohio.
She was born July 25, 1921, in Laynesville, Floyd County, to the late Jerome R. and Cora Belcher Damron.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Broadus D. Spears; a son, Benny J. Spears; and three brothers, Gene Damron, Jennings Damron and E.W. Damron.
Earlene had a long, fulfilling life. She was a loving mother, wife, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her focus in life was her faith, family and friends. She was a member of Beech Street Christian Church in Ashland and faithful to its ministries. She spent her life in Christian fellowship, preparing for the time when she would leave her earthly home to be with the Lord. She is home now!
Those left behind to cherish her memory include her son, David "Buck" Spears of Fairfield, Ohio; beloved sister, Pauline Amburgey of Ashland; and loving grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.
A private service to celebrate her life will be Friday, Feb. 10, 2017, at Rose Hill Mausoleum in Ashland with Pastor Jerry Bliffen of Coal Run Church of Christ and Pastor Shane Lockard of Zebulon Church of Christ officiating.
Lazear Funeral Home in Ashland is in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, friends and family are encouraged to make contributions to Beech Street Christian Church Family Life Center, 1672 Beech St., Ashland, KY 41102 or Vitas Healthcare in Cincinnati, Ohio.
The Family wishes to thank the staff at Doverwood Nursing Home and the Vitas Hospice team for their attentive and professional care. They are truly angels here on earth. A special thank you is extended to the Fairfield Church of Christ for ministering to her spiritually. -
