Dorothy Spears

ASHLAND - Dorothy Nelle Spears, 91, of Ashland, died Saturday morning, Jan. 7, 2012, in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland following an extended illness.

Dorothy was born Nov. 10, 1920, in Watauga, Tenn., a daughter of the late George and Hattie Range Snodgrass.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, Howard K. Spears, in 1977, and by 10 brothers and sisters.

Dorothy was a member of Rose Hill Baptist Church and was a former associate with G.C. Murphy's and Gallaher's Gateway.

She is survived by a son, Terry Spears and wife Sandy of Summitt; a daughter, Brenda Kaye Yates of Kissimmee, Fla.; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

A private graveside committal service will be Monday, Jan. 9, 2012, at Rose Hill Burial Park.

Arrangements are under the direction of Preston Family Funeral Home in Ashland.
