Dorothy Marie Fraley Young (1921-2009)
Dorothy Marie Fraley Young, 88, of Westwood, Ashland, Ky., went to join her Savior and Heavenly Father on Thursday afternoon, March 12, 2009, at the residence of her daughter, Nancy Young Hutzell, in Fort Ashby, W.Va.
Born on Feb. 1, 1921, in the Greenup County community of Wash, she was the daughter of Briton Bailey Fraley and Julia Elizabeth (Conley) Fraley. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by five sisters, Louise Fraley Hudnell, Martha Fraley McGraw, Mint Fraley McGraw, Esther Fraley Cassell and Edna Fraley Blevins; and three brothers, Willie Fraley, John Fraley and Paul Fraley.
She is survived by her beloved sister and friend, Betty Fraley (Mrs. Robert) Sims of Frankfort, Ohio, and by sisters-in-law Gusta Fraley and Elva Fraley, both of Chillicothe.
Dorothy was saved by Jesus Christ in 1944 and was a member of Old Oak Springs United Baptist Church of Jesus Christ, which still meets on 39th Street in Ashland. She was baptized by her father, a United Baptist preacher.
She married her husband, Oliver Perry Young, of Lawrence County, Ky., on April 12, 1940. They were married 45 years until his death in 1985.
Dorothy was a homemaker, dedicated to her husband and children. Two daughters, Margaret Ann Young and Mary Lou Young Caudill, preceded her in death. She is survived by two sons, Oliver Perry Young Jr., and wife Kay Watts Young of Westwood, and Carl Edward Young and wife Dianna Young of Cincinnati; her daughter, Nancy Susan Young Hutzell and husband Larry Hutzell of Fort Ashby, W.Va.; and her son-on-law, Wayne Caudill of Morehead.
Dorothy's children gave her 13 grandchildren: Jeannette Caudill Waddell, Patti Caudill Rice, Lucinda Caudill White and Wayne Caudill Jr.; Tammy Young Jackson, Hope Young Lowe and Melony Young McKinney; Phillip, Carla, Brittany and Jaquen Young; and Lauren and Zachary Hutzell. Dorothy had 14 great-grandchildren.
Doroty is also survived by three special friends, Shirley Stapleton, Phyllis Whitt and Arlene Leibee. When she was unable to attend church, she always missed the company and fellowship of these great ladies.
In addition to being a Christian. Dorothy was a patriot, following current events and praying for God's mercy upon the USA. Throughout her life, she exercised her right to vote as often as she could. She was a passionate friend of the unborn, believing abortion is a terrible wrong for any nation or people.
Dorothy Young's influence was felt by everyone who knew her. She stood for all that was right and good. Dorothy's greatest hope was that all her children would come to know Jesus Christ as Savior. She was especially proud that her two sons felt called to preach, teach and minister to others, and that both of her adult daughters also called Christ Lord.
Funeral services were at Miller Funeral Home in Ashland on March 17. Elders of the United Baptist Church officiated, with a capella singing by members of the church. Entombment was in Rose Hill Burial Park Mausoleum in Ashland.
