David C. Barber, 79, of Ashland, passed away Thursday, September 12, 2019 at his residence. Mr. Barber was born March 8, 1940 in Ashland, KY a son of the late Theodore R. and Flossie Fryman Barber. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his wife Sandra K. Figley Barber in 1998.
David was a lifelong member of the Christ United Methodist Church in Ashland. He was very active in many capacities of the church. One of his passions was sports. He and his longtime friend Charlie McDowell coached in the Ashland Babe Ruth League for many years under the sponsorship of Ashland Sporting Goods. He enjoyed following the football coaching career of his son-in-law and grandson. David also volunteered at Kings Daughters Medical Center.
Mr. Barber worked in sales in the Industrial and Electrical supply industries with several area companies. He was still actively working with US Bearings and Transmissions and had also worked for many years with KY Electric Supply and Ashland Electric Supply.
Those left to cherish his memory include his son Larry Barber of Ashland, his daughter Mary Evans and her husband Lee of Ashland, his brother Charles Barber and wife Vicki of Versailles, KY, grandchildren Katie Evans, Lance Evans and a host of extended family and good friends.
Funeral services will be held 11:00am Tuesday, September 17, 2019 at the Steen Funeral Home Central Avenue Chapel by James Lindsey and Michael McAllister. Burial will follow in the Rose Hill Burial Park.
Visitation will be Monday evening from 6-8pm at the funeral home.
