Charles Thompson, 93, of Westwood, widower of Lillie Mae Preston Thompson, passed away Friday afternoon, May 2, 2008, at Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.
Charlie was born Nov. 14, 1914, in Louisa, a son of the late Winfield Scott and Lillie Travis Thompson.
Charlie retired from the maintenance department at Allied Chemical. He had been a devoted member of Westwood United Baptist Church since January 1952. He served and was ordained as a deacon in July 1960.
In addition to his parents, Charlie was preceded in death by his loving wife of 68 years, Lillie Mae Preston Thompson in November 2005. He was also preceded in death by one daughter, Christine Rothenstine; three sisters, Maggie Preston, Millie Lou Sammons and Julia Senters; and one brother, Clarence Thompson.
He is survived by two sons, James Lee Thompson, and his wife Peggy, of Ashland and Clyde Leslie Thompson and his wife, Dreama, of Westwood; one daughter, Linda Lou Whitlock and her husband, Bob, of Westwood; three brothers, Lonnie Thompson and James Henry Thompson both of Westwood and H. B. Thompson of Flatwoods; two sisters, Cora Holbrook of Westwood and Garnett Stevens of Deltona, Fla.; 12 grandchildren, Teresa Winebarger, Curt Thompson, Mark Achorn, Greg Whitlock, Chris Whitlock, Mark Rothenstine, Cynthia Lee Hissett, Leslie Ferrell, C. L. Thompson, Rochelle Sargent, Becky Boyd and Tracy Rimmer; 22 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, May 5, 2008, at Westwood United Baptist Church by Elder J.D. Riggs and Elder Clarence Thompson Jr., with Elder Gary Murray leading prayer. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Burial Park. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
Friends may call Sunday evening from 6 to 9 p.m. at Caniff Funeral Home in Westwood and one hour before services at the church on Monday.
