Charles Lenvil Pennington - 1929-2009
Charles Lenvil Pennington, 79, of Ashland, Ky., died Thursday, Feb. 26, 2009, in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.
He was born Nov. 19, 1929, in Ashland, a son of the late Charlie Pennington and Rebecca Blevins Pennington. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Helen Carol Scarberry Pennington, on Dec. 15, 2003; and a brother, Edgar Everett Pennington.
He was a retired tractor operator in the shipping department of Armco Steel in Ashland, where he worked for 42 years. He was a member of Wildwood First Church of God and the Elderberries Group, attended Ashland High School and was a dedicated hunter and fisherman.
He served in the Korean War in the U.S. Army as a private E-2.
Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Carol Lynn (Michael W.) Hellard of Ashland; two granddaughters, Diana Lynn Hellard of Lexington, Ky., and Susan Elizabeth Hellard of Ashland; an honorary granddaughter, Sandy Jessup of Lexington; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Orville J. (Phyllis) Pennington of Ashland and James Curtis (Shirley) Pennington of Highlands, Texas; a brother-in-law, Russell M. (Joann) Scarberry; a sister-in-law, Nadine S. (Gaylord) Crum; and a lifelong friend, Miles Strother, who was faithful to the end.
The funeral will be at noon Monday, March 2, 2009, at Lazear Funeral Home in Ashland by the Rev. Mabel Johnson. Burial will be in Rose Hill Burial Park in Ashland.
Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday, March 1, 2009, at the funeral home.
