Cecil Clayton Pruitt, 85, of Ashland, passed away Sunday, April 8, 2012, in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.
Mr. Pruitt was born June 30, 1926, in Red Ash, Va., a coal mining community, to the late Charles Edgar and Exie Pearl Hess Pruitt.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Mary Evelyn Pruitt; a brother, Jim Pruitt; and sisters Bonnie Evans, Thelma Elswick and Juanita Newberry.
Mr. Pruitt attended South Ashland United Methodist Church and retired as a general operator with more than 40 years of service from Calgon Corp. in Catlettsburg. He was a U.S. Army World War II veteran.
He is survived by his daughter, Cynthia Lynn Barker and husband Keith of Ashland; a brother, Ted Pruitt and wife Frances of Alexandria, Va.; a sister, Gladys Hedge of Danville, Va.; and grandchildren Kaitlyn Nicole Barker and Braden Alexander Barker.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 12, 2012, at Steen Funeral Home-13th Street Chapel in Ashland by the Rev. Lance Campbell. Entombment will be in Rose Hill Burial Park Mausoleum.
Visitation for family and friends will be after noon Thursday at the funeral home.
